Three minute wait for trains during Olympics

Published by admin under Beijing Today

[#3: Edit Options>MightyAdsense>Adsense Code]

During the Games, subway trains will depart at 3 minute intervals.

According to the Beijing Evening News, subway line 10 and the Olympic Lateral will start test runs on Thursday. Planners have revealed that during Games-time, wait time for trains will be minimized to a mere three minutes.

Leaders are paying close attention to safety and other concerns regarding the subway lines during August and September.

According to the Beijing subway company, line 10 and the Olympic Lateral initiated test runs last month, but the versions starting Thursday will be more complete trials, emphasizing departure time between trains with the goal of 3 minute breaks by the time the Olympics roll around.

In June, the subway lines will be open to the public. Travelers wishing to get on the Olympic Lateral must go through security checks at Beitucheng Station in order to ensure safety in the Olympic zone.w020080328321440273838.jpg

Flyers will remove shoes for tighter air security

Published by admin under Beijing Today

According to the news from the aviation authorities that  passengers in China to remove their shoes for safety checks as part of a tighter security system ahead of the Olympics.

So what do you think regarding this check process for tighter air secutity. Is it good for safe of everyone? Is it unnecessary for this kind of arrangnent? Or it doesn’t matter?

In my personal opinion, it is not a bad thing during the time for Olympic. You know, safety is the most important thing for everyone. Without safety, talking about spots or life is useless. Right?

Staff would also examine cabin baggage more closely and “easy boarding” services, where passengers pay for the privilege of speedier security checks and priority boarding, would be banned.

Your safe can be assured in China, take it easy.

Beijing Airport’s new Terminal 3 the largest building in the world

Published by admin under Beijing Today

Beijing Capital Airport’s spanking new Terminal Three opens this Friday. The Norman Foster-designed building is being touted as the largest building in the world. And it is colossal. To give you an idea of just how big it is, the terminal is the size of 170 soccer fields put together, and that is 17 percent more floor space than all of London Heathrow’s five terminals put together! The terminal is shaped like the character 人 which means people, and its design reminds one of the dragon, complete with ’scales’ oriented south-east to capture as much of the winter sun as possible.

Thanks to the Olympics, this year will see Beijing being catapulted into the league of the world’s busiest air hubs, alongside Atlanta, Heathrow, Tokyo Haneda and Chicago O’Hare:

Skyrocketing demand for travel in China on the back of its saw the airport handle 48 million passengers last year, far above its capacity of 35 million. This summer’s Olympics are expected to boost this number to 64 million, out of a capacity of 76 million…
Still that is unlikely to meet with demand for the next few years. A second airport is already being planned for Beijing.

Beijing’s subways to offer 24-hour service during Olympic ceremonies

Published by admin under Beijing Today

Beijing subways will try to run round-the-clock on the opening and closing days of the Olympic Games.

The move was aimed at relieving heavy traffic on the two days, Aug. 8 and Aug. 24, while the operating hours would be extended on other days of the Games, Tuesday’s Beijing Daily quoted an official with the Beijing metro operation company as saying, without giving further details.

The subway is expected to carry the bulk of passengers to the National Stadium, also known as the “bird’s nest”, on the opening day when about 100,000 people are expected to attend the ceremony, he said.

The No. 10 route linking the stadium with the downtown area was expected to have intervals between trains shortened from four minutes to three minutes during the ceremonies, said the official.

Subway stations would have “green channels” for ticket holders, Games staff and volunteers, who will be exempted from paying the 2-yuan fare during the Olympics.

China’s first adult shop

Published by admin under Variety life

Located on East Fuchengmen Road in Beijing’s Xicheng District, the Adam & Eve Health Center sells adult health products including contraceptives, pregnancy test reagents, aphrodisiacs, sexual intercourse supplements, masturbation products, glamorous underwear and etc. The small shop of approximately 20 square meters enjoyed great popularity for a time during the 1990s and was described by foreign reports at that time as “a kind of symbol of China’s reform and opening to the outside world”.

The exhibition style of the products in the shop is comparatively “implicit and low-pitched”, according to a recent Beijing Youth Daily report. Sales women wearing white gowns are polite and courteous but leave customers to choose products by themselves. Conversations, if any, are conducted in a very low voice.
